Trainworks Rail Museum – Thirlmere
The Stage Government funded the construction of a new rail museum at Thirlmere to combine the collection of the private Rail Heritage Society and the State Rail Heritage Society. Lighting, Art & Science were engaged to design the display lighting, lighting control and associated electrical systems for the exhibition and audio-visual system.
The display ranged from small tickets and documents to locomotives and cranes.
The main feature of the exhibition was the Governor General’s Carriage. A heritage item of high significance, it had to be lit internally without causing any damage to the fabric of the carriage. In addition extensive daylight penetration studies were undertaken to control the impact of direct sunlight onto the carriage.
