Brett Whiteley Place-North Sydney
Lighting Art + Science in collaboration with landscape architects Oculus were commissioned to propose a lighting design for the Brett Whiteley Place formerly known as North Sydney Plaza. It is also part of the North Sydney Council’s efforts to revitalize the public space and create a focal point in the middle of North Sydney CBD.
A lighting design strategy envisioning improved safety as well as creating an attractive destination for the promotion of public arts, events and a place for social interactions was realised. In the lighting design, post top luminaires and high poles with spotlights provided the necessary safety lighting for the thoroughfare between the buildings. The feature lighting in the form of catenary and LED inground strip lights created a warm inviting environment for visitors, couples and families to relax and feel comfortable while navigating the space at night.
Stylish round post top luminaires and poles with spotlights were selected to provide the area lighting. The public art work, seating, fountains and landscaped areas were aesthetically featured with up lighting from architectural inground LED luminaires, to welcome visitors to come and enjoy the park. Visitors and pedestrians to the Brett Whiteley Place now have a night-time travel route, which links the Mount Street and the adjacent Elizabeth Plaza with the aid of the new lighting scheme.
