St James Chapel, The Crypt

Lighting Art + Science worked closely with heritage architects Design 5 on the refurbishment of the St James’ Crypt in developing a lighting scheme that exploited the architectural features of the space. This multifunction space includes the children’s chapel and Sunday school, a café, amenities, columbarium and consultation rooms.

A series of Inground Uplights were used to highlight the vaulted ceiling in the Crypts’ main corridor. Linear fully diffused fixtures are installed in each of the alcoves to provide an evenly lit environment while giving reference to the architectural ceiling element. All fixtures are fully controllable allowing for scene setting options whilst the space is being used for different purposes.
